Hour of Code-12/13

This week we learned how to code a web site during the "Hour of Code" week. I found this lesson to be interesting because of one example, which was basically set up as a game, where you have to tell the machine what to do. This makes me wonder what is behind some websites and animated sites.

Reflections-Nov 18th

Last week in web design we learned how to photo shop a picture and ways of posting them on our wikispaces. We also learned how to fix up pictures, such as fading them sizing them and cropping them before editing the appearance. This is a very good skill to have for those interested in becoming web designers in the near future and those interested in starting their own website(s).

Learning Reflection Nov.8th

In the last week I have been using Code Academy, which emphasizes the importance html has on the internet and web design. I have learned ways of posting pictures on a website, ways of creating my own website, fixing a website, fixing fonts, and also fixing pictures. This is a helpful resource because we are given tools that no other students in Curtis are able to acquire. I am actually beginning to enjoy the Code Academy website and training.

Industry Podcasts and Professional Communities

The first podcast that I listened to was on Typeradio.org, which was an interview on Laura Meseguer on her views about Religion, working space and her relationship with her relatives. The second podcast that i listened to was found on http://www.rookiedesigner.com/2013/05/rookie-designer-140-networking-on-and-offline/ ; this was about networking on and offline. The difference between the two podcast is that the first one was an interview that was more on the personal side and the second spoke about the importance of networking for work.

Learning Reflection pt 1

During this past week I have learned many different things that can be carried over to different things; Such as learning what Netiquette is and the effect that it has on our society. I also learned ways of conducting a proper podcast and using it as a welcome message for a website. Digital footprints was my favorite because it taught me to become more cautious of other people on social media and be aware of the fact that people are aware of the things that you publicly write. In the beginning of writing these blogs, I was not interested at all, but as time went on and we became more interactive with them it began to grow on me. The blogs that we have created in class are now fun because we have a chance of connecting our academic lives to the things that we enjoy, such as in the internet.

Netiquette-b4 9/17

Netiquette is a social interaction that is conducted over many different networks, ranging from the internet and mailing lists to blogs and forums. Good netiquette is important because it speaks alot about your character and the level of self-control that you have. Netiquette is primarily through websites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc.

What is a Blog?-b1

A blog is discussion held by a group of people that comment on a variety of topics that are posted onto the World Wide Web. Blogs are usually written by one or proposed by a group of people. I follow Oprah Winfrey's twitter and other inspirational people. Blogging can be used in many ways such as voicing opinions or getting feedback from the students in this class.

Importance of Digital Footprints-b3

Digital Footprint is what the internet knows about you through your interaction on the Web.It is important to have a positive foot print because any job is able to see how you handle yourself with others on the internet. At the moment my foot print isn't very revealing, that is one thing that I can work, making myself more positively known to others. It matters who you are associated with because that says a lot about who you hang out with and the type of person that you are.

Academic Integrity-b2 9/16

Academic Integrity is when a person does a paper or report correctly, meaning, they have cited the person(s) that they have used throughout their report without copying their work. By taking someones work and stating that it is your own, is considered Plagiarism, also known as "Stealing".  It is important because it can happen to both you and I, which can mean that our academic profiles can be put in jeopardy. If you Plagiarize someones work you can be penalized by a dean of the school or worse, expelled.
